Then and Now

This post and it's title have such a deeper meaning for me now.  When Payton conned her way into our hearts with the saddest puggy dog face ever, we could never have imagined the crazy ride that lie ahead.  We wouldn't trade any of it for all the riches in the world.

This is an old picture, my very first one to be exact.  (I posted it once before a while back in a Flashback Friday post, but I just had to use it again here for comparison purposes.)

June 2003
I'm sure you can see why it was so easy for me to get my 'rents wrapped around my fingers (well, I guess the technical term would be paws) before we even got home.  I can't believe how time flies.

But some things never change.

Payton

Yep, all it ever took was one look and she had us just where she wanted us.  She was such a cutie even in her old age.  I miss kissing those fuzzy lips.

I hope everyone had a great Easter Weekend.  It was bittersweet for us, but the weather was lovely and I was inspired by Winston's idea to have everyone plant PINK flowers in Payton's honor.  I felt that I too needed to participate.

The calla lilies were my favorite of all the pink flowers we saw at the market.  Very spring.  I wish my little helper was by my side.  Payton would have stuck her face in the bag of dirt and smelled each and every bud.  She loved to smell flowers, especially when she was younger.  Thank you, Winston, for this beautiful tribute.

Love,
Christy

Our Payton pink daisies take center stage on our back patio. As the weather warms up, they will become planted.

Payton was an adorable baby! You were so lucky to have her for those many years by your side each spring!

Oh Christy my heart aches for you cause you know we are going through the same thing over here. I love that tribute. Im planning on growing a rose bush in honor of Fred, he loved to pee on mine :) or a lemon tree. The calla lillies are beautiful and I love the idea winston came up with doing pink.

Those flowers are beautiful. Payton was lovely young or old and the flowers are a fitting tribute

Thank you for showing us those cute pictures of Payton.

We were inspired to plant pink, also, and planted a pink garden for Payton.

It's a little early to plant here but we will plant pink in Payton's honor when the time comes.

After Nicki passed, we planted a Peace rose in her honor and put some of her ashes in with the soil. It has some of the most beautiful blooms I've ever seen.

What a beautiful way to start off the week. I love that her tail is even the same 9 years later:)

It is also too early here to plant, but we have a new garden area and we will surely add Pink for Payton! A flower story for you. For my 40th bday my SIL purchased a lavender rose bush for me. My mom LOVED that rose and later that year my SIL bought one for my mom. It had the most beautiful lavender/silver roses on it. Move ahead a few years and my mom passes away in November. That Summer I go outside to look around one day and see the rosebush is flowering....except the roses are DEEP RED! Since her death the roses are ALWAYS red. The signs are there! Payton will never leave you!

We've given Payton an honorary seed tray here on the farm and I took a photo of it yesterday filled with zipper peas. I'll refill it with pink Sweet Peas and donate the money from selling them to a rescue in her name. We'll think of her often in the years to come.

Dear Christy,

I couldn't resist reading Payton's story. Losing a loved one is a heart breaking experience. I have lost my baby Shark after being diagnosed of poisoning. They vet gave us a positive prognosis, but the next morning they called saying he had died. You are lucky to have spent her last minutes with her.

I am hoping you the best on your family's recovery. Stay strong.

We still come here everyday, just like when she was here. Hard to make comments sometimes, cuz we are still crying too.

We fell in love with Payton right away and our love to her is still alive.
Hang in there, Christy.
Sending you pug juju to fix your broken heart little sooner.

What a lovely post, such cute pictures of Payton. So glad to see you will be posting these wonderful memories, hopefully this will be healing for you, and are smiling through the tears. We have a new pug memorial rock that Mom & Dad put out Saturday and when the weather gets warm enough we will plant some pink flowers by it.

Awww, thanks for the puppy pic. I hadn't seen that before.

"Fuzzy lips" :)

I plant Begonias in the front yard every year (I seem to have the best luck with those), and this year pink will absolutely be the color.

It's funny ... the way these little creatures wrap themselves around our hearts! And the unconditional love they give in return! It's so easy to fall in love ...

I love the calla lilies! They are so beautiful - just like Payton! Last week we ordered pink bleeding hearts to plant in our garden ... in Payton's memory! So I love that Winston had this idea and shared it with everyone. I'll get picture planting our flowers and again when they bloom! The best part is that they will bloom every year so we can remember Payton and what a remarkable girl she was!

We can't wait to hear more about her! Thank you for continuing her story ...
