Learning to swim...part 1

♫♪♫
Just keep swimming,
Just keep swimming,
Just keep swimming swimming swimming,
What do we do?  We swim swim swim!
♫♪♫

Inspired by Tallulah at Southern Fried Pugs, I started taking swimming lessons.  Mom and dad think it will help strengthen my gimpy left legs (that have been impaired because of my PDE).  I was worried that they wouldn't be able to teach this old dog some new tricks.

Gammy and Gampy were so nice to let me use their back patio.  Ours is not big enough for a pool.  We started off taking baby steps in a kiddie pool.  As you can see, I could touch the bottom with no problem.

Gampy, put your iPhone down and save me!
At first, I wouldn't budge.  Then mom got out the treats, and I was movin'!  Check out this video.

Mom wanted me to say that I did eventually get that nugget of goodness and more after we were all done in the water, but as you all might guess, I don't think I got nearly enough treats as I deserved!  Anyway, not bad for my first try, huh?  My favorite part was getting toweled dry by Gampy.

Gampy and wet pug
After another go in this kiddie pool the next day, mom and dad decided to take this adventure to the next level.  They said I was ready for real swimming.  And we took over Gampy and Gammy's patio even more!  Stay tuned...

Love,
Payton

Awwww! You are a regular MERMAID Payton! Great job!

Tell mom you want a swanky new pink swimming cap with a big honkin plastic flower on the side of it!

Hi Payton
I PRETEND I don't like swimming in anything BUT my puggy pool BUT the truth is I LOVE IT anywhere! Of course, since I am a pug and pugs are not known for their floatability, I wear a life jacket when I swim in the lake. It is just extra precaution because I really am accomplished at keeping my nose and eyes above the water.
Good luck with the lessons.

Wow, Payton, you did great! Strolling around in a pool looks like a lot of fun - and an effective way to cool off. I can't wait to see your video of you "taking it to the next level". I'd love to try some actual swimming, although, like Noodles, I'd probably have to wear a floatie because of my over-protective 'rents. -Love, Sid.

you're such a good swimmer peyton!! pug is a little too afraid of the water maybe this will boost his confidence that pugs can swim.

Great job, Peyton! You did awesome and I agree, you did not get nearly enough treats.
Lucky loves to swim, but not me. I hate getting wet.
Keep up the good work.

I think in order to swim, a pug must have a brand new polka dot bikini, right? The treats don't hurt either.. We can't wait to see Part 2. Swimming really is good for a pug's joints, so keep going for the gold P!
