Silly side effects…weak teeth

As many of your humans may know, the steroid prednisone (one of my PDE drugs) has the unfortunate side effect of weakening bones.  This includes teeth.  About 6 months to a year after first being diagnosed with PDE, I chipped two teeth while chomping on my old favorite toy, the smallest size Galileo bone.  Oh, how I miss good ol' Galileo.  Since then mom and dad have not let me chew or play with anything hard.  But despite their best efforts, in the last year (but not at the same time), I have lost my two front teeth (on the bottom of my mouth) while playing with those Skinneez stuffing-less plush toys.  Gotta love the Skinneez!  My parents were sad to see those teeth go (they just adore my tiny front teefies, as they call them) and I was nervous that my eating skills would be impaired, but there was no infection and I can still clean a plate like nobody’s business!  And now look at this mug!

Sometimes my pink tongue curls up in the space left from my missing teeth.  When that happens I think my parents fawn over me more than usual.  So I can't complain.

I actually just lost another tooth last week playing with the flamingo ballerina that Suki gave me.  Oops!  I guess I got a bit rough trying to put an end to it's squeaking.  Mom and dad can't figure out where I lost it from, so it must be somewhere in the middle or back of my mouth where it's harder to see (cause I put up a pretty big fight when someone wants to look in there).  But don't worry, it hasn't affected my smile or my desire to end the world of squeakers!  So come on...lemme at it!

Love,
Payton

Oh Payton, you are the cutest girl with or without some teeth !!! I've seen your play with flamingo ballerina, you're tough!!! so it could result some tooth loss!! anyway, you're still the prettiest girl in the world, so don't worry :) big kiss Payton ;)

You'll look great no matter what. And believe me, you'll still be able to scarf down the food.

Mom has fostered many senior pugs through the years, and most had few, if any, teeth. Never slowed them down a bit. Even in the playing department.

I hope you keep the rest of your teefies, but you'll be fine no matter what. As long as you stay healthy.

Hi Payton! Mom has been slacking on reading the blogs to me so I had to have a talk with her. She saw the error of her ways so here I am!! I'm so sorry about your teefies. But I'm so glad it hasn't hurt your plate-cleaning abilities! B/c that would be a TRAGEDY!!!

Now, I need to have mom get me some of those Skinneez. I love plush toys but I rip 'em open too fast and eat the stuffing! She looked at Petsmart last time and couldn't find any stuffing-less plush toys. :(

Later friend! Off to catch up on the rest of your blog!

Hi Payton,
Bummer about those teefies but hey! Otherwise you are healthy, right? And I thought the gap in your lower teeth was natural! Really! It looks good on you.

You don't need those teeth, Payton, you're still just as cute without them! I also had to have a certain toy taken away (a Nylabone) because I fractured one of my molars. I sure liked that bone, but I guess it was for my own good. I actually like my rubber Kong bone better because my parents stuff the ends with PEANUT BUTTER! Yum! -Love, Sid

Somehow I just don't think it has slowed you down at all! I pawsonally think you have a great mug. I too have bad teeth. Something about periodontal disease, but I WIG OUT if mom tries to brush them. Sorry, I swear I am a good girl in all other areas!

Miss Payton,
You still are very beautiful.

Josie use to be on that drug.
It made her pant so we had to half the dose.

You are a little trooper and we think you should get some icee cream... that's nice and soft!
